Fire & Water Damage Investigation and Restoration

Fire and Water Damaged Three Story Hotel, Harrisburg, PA: August 2008

Structure consisted of Masonry, Concrete, Structural Steel and Wood Roof Hotel.  Building Fire caused by cigarette on ground smoldering inside the cavity wall, with the chimney effect the fire traveled into the attic and damage the roof and pre-engineered wood trusses prior to being put out. Hired by another Civil Engineer under contract with the Property Insurance Company.

Services Provided:

  • On Site Survey of Structural Damage
  • Met with Fire Marshall to provide for occupancy permit during repair construction.
  • Construction document research, retrieval and review
  • On site confirmation of dimension and truss support not provided on record drawings.
  • Structural Analysis of fire damaged wood roof trusses; provide repair details as required for trusses and roof decking.
  • Repair details of damaged cold formed steel wall system; contractor provided detailed sketch of proposed reconstruction for review and approval of Structural Engineer.
  • Structural Analysis of steel framed column to confirm allowable stress with bowing in column, additional effort to provide repair detail to strengthen column was not required once analysis was complete.
  • We provided structural notes and detailed drawings for the remediation of the damaged exterior wall and roof framing system.
